Information
To find Rest Bay, at junction 37 of the M4, take the A4229, which leads straight to Porthcawl. All the usual trappings of a holiday resort beach are found here and there is abundant parking right next to the beach. Accomodation is available in Porthcawl. Lifeguards cover both beaches at weekends May - September and daily July - August. First aid is also available. Bathers should be aware that there is large surf at the beach and that cross currents form at some stages of the tide.

The beach is cleaned daily by the Council throughout the bathing season. Both litter and dog bins are provided but dogs are not allowed on the beach from May - September. The toilets have disabled facilities and there is also a first aid post, lost child centre, café and a slipway.

Rest bay and its Porthcawl neighbours are situated adjacent to the Glamorgan Heritage Coast. There is a cycle route from Porthcawl and common land next to the beach for walks. There are rock pools along the beach and the Kenfig National Nature Reserve is 3 miles away.

There is zoning for water sports during the summer months..
The large sandy, west facing beach of Rest Bay is good for windsurfing in Southerly through Westerly to Northerly winds, with N and NW winds producing excellent wave sailing and jumping conditions. The waves aren't as clean as at Ogmore and consequently not so good for surfing, but are fine for windsurfing or kitesurfing. Kiting on the sands at low tide is also possble.

This beach is also popular with jet-skiers due to its ease of access from the M4.
